Lending Policy

Circulating Technology Bundle Lending Policy

Overview:

The Greenburgh Public Library is pleased to offer Chromebooks or Laptops and Hotspot check-out service. Technology Bundles are now available to be placed on hold and checked out.

Limits and Availability:

  • Technology Bundles can be checked out by persons 18 years of age or older who are in good standing with the library and who have a valid Greenburgh Public Library Card.
  • A patron library card and photo ID must be presented at check-out.
  • An eligible patron can only borrow one Technology Bundle at a time with no renewals.
  • Patrons may not install any software on the machines.
  • Patrons may not alter, delete, or copy any software loaded on the laptop or otherwise alter its existing configuration.

Check-out Procedure:

  • A patron borrowing a Bundle must read and abide by the Greenburgh Public Library’s Circulating Technology Bundle Lending Policy and Computer and Internet Use Policy.
  • At the time of check out, the Chromebook or Laptop and accessories will be inspected by a staff member to make sure it is intact and functioning properly and that all computer components are present. 
  • A patron borrowing a Technology Bundle is required to present a current Greenburgh Public Library card and photo ID for verification.
  • The Bundle will be checked out to the borrower’s Greenburgh Public Library account.
  • The Chromebook or Laptop will be restored to factory settings upon return for privacy purposes. The patron is cautioned to save files on his/her flash drive, cloud account, or e-mail them as an attachment.

Loan Period and Renewals:

  • The check out period for each Chromebook Bundle is three weeks with no renewals allowed.
  • To avoid late fees, all Bundles must be returned by the due date.

Return Procedure:

  • Bundles cannot be returned through the book drop.
  • Patrons must return the Technology Bundle in person during Curbside Hours. When returning, patron should call 914-721-8204 upon arrival to let a staff member know they are here to return a Technology Bundle.
  • The Technology Bundle will remain on patron card for a 96-hour quarantine period. It will then be inspected to see if it is in working order, with all components included and is in the same condition as when it was checked out. The Bundle will then be checked in and removed from the patron’s account. Fines may accrue during this time period but will be removed once the Chromebook Bundle has been checked in. 
  • Until the equipment has been placed in the hands of a library staff member and removed from the patron’s library account, the equipment remains the responsibility of that patron.

Fines and Liability:

  • The borrower assumes all liability for the cost of repair or replacement in the event of loss, theft, damage, negligence, or misuse.
  • The borrower assumes full financial responsibility ($375) for a lost, missing, stolen or damaged Chromebook, hot spot, and accessories.
  • The borrower assumes full financial responsibility ($550) for a lost, missing, stolen or damaged Laptop, hot spot, and accessories.
  • A repair fee will be levied for damaged equipment and accessories based on the cost of the repairs.
  • Replacement for the, hotspot, power cord, power adapter, mouse , carrying case and/or other accessories will be charged at current market cost.
  • An overdue fine of $10.00 per day, with a maximum fine of $50.00, will be levied for overdue Technology Bundles.
  • A patron’s privilege to check-out a Technology Bundle may be suspended if the patron violates this Circulating Technology Bundle Lending Policy in anyway.

Troubleshooting Problems & Questions:

  • If a patron experiences problems with hotspot, Chromebook/laptop hardware or applications or has questions, he/she should call the Adult Information Desk at 914-721-8225.
  • The borrower will be held financially responsible for any damage to a device if he/she tries to troubleshoot problems without library staff member guidance.

Disclaimer:

  • The Greenburgh Public Library will assume no responsibility for damage to any removable drive (i.e., floppy, CD or flash drive) or for loss of data or files that may occur due to viruses, software failure, network failure, electrical failure or any other cause.
  • Chromebooks and laptops have no Internet filtering software. The library will not be held responsible for any questionable content viewed or accessed.
