Discord, anyone?

by Antonio Forte on 2020-11-09T10:00:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

Well, not that kind of discord. The kind of discord I'm talking about is Discord, the text, audio, and video chat platform. Since we've all moved into the virtual world, we are all familiar with Zoom and Google Meetings. If you're a gamer, then you may already be familiar with Discord. For those that don't know what it is, Discord is a free service that provides users with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VoIP allows users to text, voice, and video chat online for free. Gamers have been using Discord for years to chat with friends while playing video games together remotely. It also allows for video game streaming for certain games, as well as watching and participating in virtual Fandom events like comic book and gaming conventions. The best analogy to describe a Discord server is by comparing it to a house. The Discord server is the house and all of the channels in the server are the rooms in the house.

With the ongoing pandemic, Discord has never been more popular and Teenburgh now has its own server! Many teen services that were previously offered in person are now being run on our Teenburgh server. In order to participate in these programs, all you need to do is create your own free Discord account when registering for one of our teen events on our Events Calendar.

If you're a Planeswalker and play Magic: the Gathering (MTG), you're in luck. Make sure you have your free Magic: the Gathering Arena account and hook up with the rest of our MTG spellcasters and have yourself a duel, or two! Next MTG events are November 10 and December 1st from 4pm to 7:30pm. Click here to register.

Animanga Club is back! If you can't get enough anime or manga, come to our next club meeting which is on Thursday, November 12th from 6pm to 7pm. Click here to register.

Come and play Animal Crossing on the first Wednesday of each month from 4:30pm - 5:30pm. Animal Crossing events are open for children and teens. We meet meet again on December 2nd. Register here to receive the Dodo code for the next game! If you have a switch but don't have Animal Crossing, no problem. We have a few copies available for you to check out once you register for the the event.

Do you miss hanging out in Teenburgh? I know I do, so we created the Teen Lounge Virtual Hangout every Friday from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Come and chat with your friends about movies, books, games, or start gaming on one of our gaming channels. Our Teenburgh server provides you with the virtual space to connect with your friends at the library. Click here to register for our next teen hang out.

So if you're missing all the action in the physical Teenburgh, our Virtual Teenburgh Server has you covered on Discord. Don't see something you like? Are you an adult that is looking to get into Discord  or gaming?  Drop us a line in our Suggestion and Event Link and make a suggestion. We hope you are all staying healthy and safe. We look forward to seeing in person soon. Till then, see you in Virtual Teenburgh!
