Greenburgh Public Library Ravenous Readers! Children’s

by Christina Ryan-Linder on 2018-12-18T13:30:15-05:00 in What To Read | 0 Comments

Ten year old Ivy is this month’s highlighted Ravenous Reader! An early reader and frequent visitor to the library, Ivy can’t get enough of reading and wants to share her passion with others.

Christina: When did you first start reading?

Ivy: Mom says I taught myself how to read at 4 years old. My favorite picture books were; The Wide Mouthed Frog, Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom and The Teeny Tiny Woman.

Christina: Why do you like to read?

Ivy: When you start reading you go to another dimension and it blocks everything out. I can read with the TV and other distractions and they all fall away when I am reading.

Christina: How do you like to read and where do you prefer to read?

Ivy: I like real books and don’t like reading on the tablet because it takes away from the experience. I like to read outside when the weather is warm and I bring a book with me during recess at school so I always have something to read. I also try to read before I go to bed but mom has to fix the light that’s broken by my bed so I don’t have to use a flashlight anymore.

Christina: How many books do you read in a month? Do you read more than one book at a time?

Ivy: I read about two or three big books a month but I am always reading short stories or comics in between. I am reading Harry Potter right now and that is the big book but I don’t want to stop reading shorter stuff in between.

Christina: Is there one genre that you read more than others?

Ivy: I really like to read Fantasy. It is a lot more fun than reading Non-Fiction because it is stuff that can never happen but it is really imaginative. But I really like reading Non-Fiction too.

Christina: What have been some of your favorite books?

Ivy: Harry Potter!!! But I am only up to the Half-Blood Prince. I am on the second book of Mistmantle. It is an animal fantasy where all the animals are given human traits and they have to save their island from evil rodents. There are a couple of Non-Fiction books that I like to read especially about animals and the earth like The Rock & Gem Book. I am starting the Artemis Fowl graphic novel next and I am also on the 9th book of A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Christina: What titles would you suggest to other avid readers?

Ivy: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Tales of Beedle the Bard. Twenty One Balloons is good so far too.

Thanks to our young ravenous reader, Ivy for sharing her passion for reading. You can get all of these Children’s books and more through the library catalog and online with CloudLibrary, Overdrive, Hoopla and Total BooX. Happy reading!
