The Greenburgh Public Library has a robust volunteer (VolunTeen) program for teens ages 12-19. In 2018 the library boasted over 300 generous and dedicated individuals who volunteered their time, skills, and energy to serve their community -- over 4,100 hours worth!

Glen is a veteran volunteer at GPL. He started helping at the library when he was a teen and just kept going. He went from  helping with events to creating and running events of his own! After all his hard work and dedication at the library he started working at GPL as a library page!

How long have you been volunteering at Greenburgh Public Library?
I have volunteered at GPL for 3 and a half years. I was recently hired to work at GPL as a page!

Why do you volunteer at the library?
Because it's fun! It allows me to elaborate on my organizational skills. I get to interact with people from different aspects of life, because Greenburgh is so diverse. My favorite part about the library is the people: the children, the staff, the library members... and most of all the friends I have made here.

What kinds of events have you volunteered for?
The list keeps on growing but....  I have volunteered to emcee at many library events including FanCon and Teen Lock In Party. I have also helped with and run many events such as Magic:The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh Clubs, helping patrons with technology, community service projects, decorating, all kinds of teen and Children's events, gardening... just to name a few!

What is the most valuable thing you have learned from volunteering at the library?
Learning how to organize in a structured way. Being able to communicate well with library guests.

How many hours have you accumulated over the course of volunteering at the library?
I have volunteered over 120 hours.

How have your interactions with library staff and other volunteers been?

I have had positive interactions with staff members from across the library including librarians, administration, pages, volunteers, maintenance, and more.

What do you see your self doing in the future?

I can see myself working with people, using the skills I have acquired at the library and elsewhere to better my horizons!
