For Parents

Q. What should I expect when logging onto Tutor.com?

There is a general time limit of 20-30 minutes per tutoring session. Each tutoring session is designed to help you with 1 or 2 questions before you continue working on your own. If you need more time with a tutor you may begin a new tutoring session.

Q: Will my tutor just give me the answers?

No, Tutor.com's philosophy is to help students understand the concepts behind what they are working on, so that our students can learn how to solve the problem and reach the answer on their own. Tutor.com is not an answer-giving service.

Q. What devices can I use to access Tutor.com?

Tutor.com requires an Internet connection. It works through a web browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari on a tablet, laptop or desktop computer. There is a new app in development. The library does not recommend using the current app.

Q. Is there a limit on the number of sessions?

There is no limit on the number of session you use.

Q: Can I review my previous sessions?

Yes, go to My Account/My Sessions.

Q: What if my tutor can't help me?

If your tutor doesn’t know how to help with your specific question, he or she will be happy to transfer you to another tutor right away (and you won't lose any minutes while you wait).

Q: Can I schedule a session with a tutor?

Students can either request an on-demand session with any available tutor, or schedule an appointment with a specific tutor. To find a tutor and set up an appointment (at least 48 hours in advance), sign in to your account and select “Schedule a Session”.

Q: Are Spanish speaking tutors available?

Tutor.com also offers Spanish-speaking support for students seeking live help for most math, science and social studies subjects. A single click toggles the entry page interface and pre- session survey between English and Spanish for Spanish-speakers. Tutor.com takes the extra step to translate pre- session submission form into Spanish for those selecting this language option. Subjects, grade levels and form instructions are all translated for an easy connection to bilingual, subject-matter expert tutors.

Q. How does the writing review work?

Writing review limits are 8000 characters (5 - 6 pages) per submission and a learner may have 3 essays under review at a time.
