What is the deadline for voting with an absentee ballot?

Oct 27 - Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.

Nov 2 - Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.

Nov 3 -  Last day to postmark an absentee ballot. Note: Postmarked ballots must be received by Nov 10th.

Nov 3 - Last day to deliver an absentee ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).

Nov 10 - Last day for absentee ballots to be received by the Board of Elections by mail.

How do I apply an absentee ballot?
  • You must apply for an absentee ballot in advance.
  • Fill out a PDF online, in English or Spanish
  • Print the completed form, sign it and deliver it, in person or by US mail, to the Board of Elections.
  • Print a blank absentee ballot application in English or Spanish, and fill it out with blue or black ink and deliver it, in person or by US mail, to the Board of Elections.
  • Go to the Westchester County Board of Elections to apply in person.
  • The BOE is located at 25 Quarropas St., White Plains, NY 10601. The office is open 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Send a letter to the Westchester County Board of Elections. Go to the Absentee Voting webpage for details on applying via letter.
When will I get my absentee ballot?

Your absentee ballot materials will be sent to you via United States mail. Your ballot will be sent immediately after your completed and signed absentee application is received and processed by your local board of elections.

If you prefer, you may designate someone to pick up your ballot for you, by completing the required information in section 6 and/or section 7, as appropriate.

How to Cast an Absentee Ballot
  • Once your receive the ballot, mark the ballot according to your choices for each office following the instructions on the ballot
  • Once you have completed marking your ballot fold it up and place it in the Security Envelope. (This envelope will have a place for your signature.)
  • Sign and date the outside of the Security Envelope.
  • Seal the Security Envelope.
  • Place the Security Envelope in the Return Envelope. (This envelope will have the return address of your county Board of Elections on the outside and should have a logo that reads, “Official Election Mail”)
  • Seal the Return Envelope.
  • You may return the ballot in any of the following ways:
    1. Put it in the mail ensuring it receives a postmark no later than November 3rd.
    2. Bringing it to the County Board of Elections Office no later than November 3rd.
    3. Bringing it to an early voting poll site between October 24th and November 1st
    4. Bringing it to a poll site on November 3rd.

(Please be warned that despite this deadline, the Post Office has advised they cannot guarantee timely delivery of ballots applied for less than 15 days before an election.)
