2021 Youth Media Award Winners & Starred Review Books!

by Nicole Guenkel on 2021-02-09T10:00:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

At the start of each year the American Library Association (ALA) honors books, videos, and other outstanding materials for children and teens published/produced during the previous year. Selected by committees composed of librarians and other literature and media experts, the ALA Youth Media Awards include the prestigious Newbery, Caldecott, Printz, and Coretta Scott King Book Awards. The awards help guide reading and purchasing decisions for parents, educators, librarians, and others, as well as encourage original and creative work in the field of children’s and young adult literature and media.

The 2021 Youth Media Award announcements took place on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021 and for the first time ever, a Native American illustrator won the Randolph Caldecott Medal for most distinguished American picture book for children!

Below are the medal winning titles of many of the 2021 Youth Media Awards. They are available for you to place on holds to check out during curbside pickup and in many cases, borrow digitally from Hoopla or Libby. Find a list of all winners in our catalog.

Looking to keep up with noteworthy titles for young people? Check out our new lists of star reviewed picture, fiction, and nonfiction books linked to our catalog, and available for holds. These books have shiny stars on their spines to help us easily find books deemed exceptional by expert reviewers.
