  1. Figure out what type of jobs you’re looking for. Depending on what job or industry you’re looking for, you will need different keywords on your resume. Many sectors uses scanners to search for specific keywords by industry. If you’re not quite sure what keywords to use, the New York State Department of Labor provides examples of keywords by industry that you can use. Note, when using keywords, make sure you will be able to explain your resume further if called into a job interview. Post your resume on sites such as Indeed.com, CareerBuilder and Monster so your resume can be pushed out to recruiters and human resources departments.

  3. Make your resume interactive by posting your Linkedin profile URL and any web work you have done. If you have a LinkedIn profile, make sure to post the link on your resume. This way when your resume is sent to a prospective employer they can simply click on a link and it will bring them to your online profile. Note: make sure your resume matches your LinkedIn profile. If your skills are listed differently on your profile and on your resume, that is a red flag to a potential employer. 4. Create an online portfolio of your work. It’s always a plus when you can provide real world examples of the work you did to a potential employer. There are many free websites that will allow you to make a portfolio to showcase your work. Although online portfolio’s have mainly been used in the design field, our landscape has changed in just a few short months. Anything that can be done virtually is going to help you stand out! 5. Make it unique and brand yourself! Figure out what makes you a perfect pick for the position. Make this into a three to four sentence branding sentence that you can put at the top of your resume to pull employers in.
