Digital Collections Feature, Flipster Magazines

Do you have a love-hate relationship with magazines, like me? I really enjoy magazines, they're timely and colorful, with short, medium, or long articles about all kinds of things, from politics to celebrities to technology to fashion to money to science to food . . . everything under the sun.

What I very much dislike about print magazines is their price, $8.99 for one issue of The New Yorker, WOW. And having to recycle these things is a headache. I know recycling is absolutely necessary, but it's a hassle. You have to find a place to keep the magazines until recycling day and and remember to haul them outside the night before. Maybe if I lived in a house instead of an apartment or had a domestic help, like on Downton Abbey . . . . until those dreams come true I am feeding my magazine habit with Flipster, the digital magazine collection from GPL.

I love Flipster! Let me count the ways. 1) It has some of my favorite magazines. 2) It's free. 3) No recycling. 4) No storing magazines around my apartment and best of all 5) No paper cuts (those interfere with knitting).

With your GPL card you can peruse magazines via Flipster.  Look for Flipster on the GPL eLibrary, Books, Music, Magazines & Streaming Video page. The library subscribes to 11 digital magazines, that are just like the print versions, you can even print any pages you want.

Consumer Reports Magazine Cover

The cover story in the February 2019 edition of Consumer Reports is Get More from Your Phone. You can read this article and many more, online using the library's Flipster app.

As usual Consumer Reports does a great job of helping you decide what kind of phone is best for you and how to get what you need for a good price. Checkout the article on page 30, 21 Hidden Smartphone Superpowers, these 21 tips are very helpful and unknown to most people.

The Flipster Magazine Collection features the following titles. Consumer Reports is especially valuable, when you are ready to buy a new appliance you can just log in with your library card and find reviews from the comfort of your home. Back issues for the past twelve months are also available.

You can read magazines from Flipster on your tablet, phone, desktop or laptop computer with your Greenburgh Library card. Flipster is easy to navigate, you can flip through the magazine page by page, or skip around from article to article via the table of contents, choose your preferred layout, one page per screen or two, zoom in and make the print as large as you like, print or save just one page, an article, or the entire magazine. Just like all digital collections you can't break, lost it or return it late, what's to lose? Nothing, I say, so give Flipster digital magazines a try.
