Summer SaladWith the warmer weather here, comes barbecue and cook out season. Even if cookouts and festivals may look a bit different this year,  we can still enjoy the tasty treats of summer!

When it's steamy and hazy outside, most of us don’t want to be working over a hot stove. The best part about summer meals is the easy, light cooking! The first step is to try to stick with the fruits and vegetables that are in season. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides us with an easy to follow Seasonal Produce Guide. Once you know your main ingredients, it's time to start cooking!

From summer drinks to easy salads, here are a few recipes to get you started on enjoying fresh and fast dishes for the summer:

Whether for cocktails and bites at the lake house or a come one, come all dinner with friends, here are more than 100 seasonally inspired recipes guided by the principle that summer cooking means keeping things loose (and the oven off when it's just too hot out). Fuel up for a surf day with a basket of Fantastic Focaccia Sandwiches, host lunch on the deck with a Grilled Shrimp Louie salad, pass around the beach picnic fare (hello, Spicy Pineapple Spears and Landlubber's Lobster Rolls). It's a cookbook and so much more–including perfect party menus and outdoor cooking tips.

A hot day and hanging over your stove were never meant to be. When fresh produce beckons but you haven't much energy to respond, these recipes help you settle into a more relaxed kind of cooking designed to keep you and your kitchen cool. Untether yourself from the oven with make-ahead meals best served cold. Equally easy are dinner salads such as Shrimp and White Bean Salad with Garlic Toasts and Grilled Caesar Salad. Find ideas for main dishes, as well as sides inspired by the seasonal bounty, plus the best fruit desserts worth turning on the oven!
