Travel Restrictions During COVID-19 (In English)
There are over 2.63M confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States.

If you are thinking about traveling this summer, make sure you get the facts about traveling and COVID-19. Right now it’s not so much how you travel, but where. As of this writing, the states with the highest risk for COVID-19 are: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, undefinedFlorida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Tennessee Delaware, Kansas and Oklahoma. The list of states changes often based on the number of positive tests, so check frequently for updates.

Here are some things to consider if you're planning on taking a trip this summer:

  • Are the cases of COVID-19 increasing in the destination you're planning to travel to?
  • Will you be able to maintain a safe distance (at least 6 feet) from others during your vacation?
  • Does your destination require you to quarantine for 14 days once you arrive?

If you are someone who has family living out of state or in another country, you may want to consider postponing your travel plans unless it's absolutely necessary.

Governor Cuomo recently signed an executive order directing travelers from high risk states to quarantine for 14 days after arriving in New York. The order, which is effective as of June 25, is also available on his website in Spanish as well as other languages.

If you come back from one of those states and do not quarantine, you can be fined up to $10,000. You can read the entire executive order here. New York is coordinating with New Jersey and Connecticut to protect the people of their respective communities from the virus while still allowing travel between these states. You can also visit the CDC’s website for more information about traveling during the pandemic.

Also on June 25, the governor signed an executive order that rescinds paid sick leave for New Yorkers who voluntarily travel to states that are considered high risk for COVID-19. The order does not apply to employees who are asked for travel for work by their employer.

No matter where you go, keep in mind that wearing a mask, staying 6 feet apart from others and washing your hands regularly are still very important! Stay safe, and happy travels!
