By taking the time to use swatches of color, sketches you have rendered and pieces of found objects, you will create a one-of-a-kind greeting card or page for a scrapbook.  This is simply not just "arts and crafts" but often a step into another way of seeing your drawings and paintings anew.  You will be inspired by what combinations you can create and be artfully surprised to try new designs without fear of messing up a painting or drawing.  Try these tips and links for a multitude of ways to share your work in a truly new and unique way.

  • Take A Good Quality Photograph Of Your Art Work

If you feel uncomfortable taking a picture, you might try having a copy made or a scan of your work stored onto a portable usb storage device.  Once you have a scanned copy you will need to convert the file from a pdf into a jpeg.  To do this use either adobe photo shop or a publisher program on your computer.  Click here for step-by-step directions for how to create a jpeg image from a scanned image.   Also, a quick work around method is to simply bring the image up on your computer screen and make a "print screen" image and paste it into a publisher or word file.  You will need to crop unwanted background images from your screen shot. You may even want to place a black line or other frame options around the image.  To do this, simply click on the image and you will notice on the ribbon tool bar a box that reads "picture tools format" for a selection of frames.

  • Include A Music File Or Narrative Message With Your Work

There are wonderful cards you can purchase which include funny, sometimes annoying music.  Now is your chance to record your voice with a greeting of best wishes.  For a few dollars you can invest in a recordable voice module.  The most common device is called EZ Sound module and is available online or through a local retailer.  The cost is much less if you buy several at a time but generally run about $4.00 each.  Click here for step-by-step directions with video instruction by Invite by Voice on how to assemble a card designed to hide an electronic sound device.  (This product link is not an endorsement).   To find music you may want to add to your personalized gift card try the Library's free music download Freegal app.  Click here to explore the wonders of using Freegal through your library to locate your favorite song, rendition or instrumental.  Log in using your library card and explore thousands of songs, artists even music videos.  Once you find a favorite tune simply download up to 5 items per week to your music library to keep for years of enjoyment.  You may consider recording yourself singing Happy Birthday along with the Beatles !
