Resources for New Immigrants on COVID-19 (In English):

If you’re a new immigrant to the United States looking for information about COVID-19 (the coronavirus) you’ve come to the right place.

The symptoms of COVID-19 include fever/chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle/body aches and loss of taste or smell. If you’re sick, stay home, rest and stay hydrated, call your doctor and don’t take public transportation.

In order to get tested for COVID-19, you can find a testing center. In Westchester, there are testing centers in New Rochelle, Yonkers, Valhalla and Mount Vernon. There are two types of tests: nasal swabs and antibody testing. Nasal swab testing will determine if you have the virus. Antibody testing is a blood test and is for people who have had or think they may have had the virus.

If you’re well and can go out, make sure to wear a mask, wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds at a time, and stay 6 feet apart from others.

You can find resources for immigrants about COVID-19 here, in your language, from the New York Immigrant Coalition, or NYIC. The NYIC advocates for immigrants by supporting driver’s licenses, legal services, health services and language access for immigrants.

You can also access the Center for Disease Control (CDC)’s website entirely in Spanish, as well as resources in other languages. For information in Spanish specifically about COVID-19, click here.

Currently, Westchester County is in Phase 3, according to Governor Cuomo. This means that restaurants can now allow people to dine indoors with social distancing and other precautions such as increased sanitation protocols. Nail salons, tattoo parlors and spas are also open, and gatherings of 25 people are allowed. To stay updated on the phase openings and latest news, check the governor's website regularly.
